Bury me by the Dogwood tree !

Bury me by the Dogwood tree !

A Poem by Tom
"

Spring has finally sprung and though I have no intention of departing....one never knows the minute !

"
Bury me not, by yew or ivy green
nor neath a slab, cold and grey
but by the dogwood tree serene
if my love, I am called away!

And when it brightly blooms in Spring
think of me with heart unblighted,
for I await where angels sing
till once more, we are united!

I am of the opinion that death, especially when it comes in old/older age, is a natural event to be expected & accepted & even celebrated. This feels like a celebration song & I especially love the way it incorporates a way for the buried person to continue speaking to the alive loved one thru blooms and other seasonal changes. I'm all for planting trees in memoriam (or in this case, being buried under a favorite tree), so our loves live on.

The Dogwood tree does indeed have significant meaning to those who correlate the pink tinged blossoms with the crucifixion of our Lord, Jesus Christ so to use it as a place for one to be interred unto eternity gives me cause to think it is indeed a fitting spot for one to be placed, awaiting their love to join them! Ah yes, the angels sing as one would remember that dear, beloved person!!

Beautiful - the classical element to your poem is greatly appreciated by me as I do so love the romantic authors as Blake, Keats, Lord Byron!

And yes, we never know the day, nor hour of our departure so it is good to keep our house in order, and our hearts filled with love - a love that is shared with those who love us.

A poignant write, my friend. I hope you will not be one with the dogwood tree for many years. T'is true....no one knows. Perhaps it is best that way. Very emotive. Lydi**

a leopard never changes its spots Woody....no pun intended ???
dear Tom... I planted a dogwood tree
beside a tall long needle pine where
limbs entwine intoxicated by sweet wine.
The romance of nature assures love in
the hereafter. Your poetry is embraced
by the promise of eternity. truly... Pat

The dogwood tree is most beautiful in bloom, isn't it? Such a lovely read, Tom. Here's to the anticipation of spring!
