Vagabonds

Vagabonds

A Poem by Trace
"

A poem for my Brother

"

Tumbleweeds tumble, which way the wind blows

Memories wither and fade

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust

We return to that, which we are made,

We make the most of what this world gives

Endure all manner of strife

Feast or famine, glory or gloom

It’s the living that rewards life,

Many put down roots somewhere

Raise a family and build a home

Day by day, year after year

We gather them, so we won’t be alone,

But to some the wind is their guidepost

Follow where the tumbleweed goes

Here to there, then to now

Where they’ll be next, nobody knows,

Yesterday’s home is in their past

Tomorrow brings a whole new day

No place to be, just traveling free

They blow on in their unconcerned way,

So don’t try to tie them down, my friend

They’ll be gone with the very next breeze

On their way, never to stay,

Vagabonds, come and go as they please.

A sweet and heartfelt tribute to your brother. I love the entire poem, but the last verse is my favorite..

This one leaves me wondering if there is anything you can't write about. You never cease to amaze me...so much talent my dear friend.

Hugs, Julie

My pleasure. LOl, it should be song of the soul, not the should. Autocorrect, geez.

For some, a life of constant change is the way to go. I know I could not handle it. Your poem paints a clear picture. It's obvious you and your brother understand one another and have a deep respect for each other. Your brother will love this one! Lydi**

Some people are just made for that type of life. I know a few. This is a wonderful piece thst does not demean your bothers choices, just fond acceptance and love. A very nice write and I love his poodle..does she really ride with him?

Wow, very nice ! Surely the difference between people who are more like trees, rooted to the ground, and those like the breeze who are in constant free motion. I liked your rhyming and enjabments.. It's true, some rely on "the wind" to take them in life and they are not rooted anywhere. This can deliver you great freedom and relief, yet can also deliver you sentiments such as loneliness.

It was my pleasure reading....
"Yesterday's home is in their past, tomorrow brings a whole new day." There is something enviable in being able to live a life on the road, a gypsy of sorts. A wonderful tribute to an unforgettable person and his awesome traveling partner. I really enjoyed this Trace.
