Kissed the Moon Goodnight

I kissed the moon goodnight
As it slipped beneath the blanket of a shimmering sea

The sky now dark
Brisk and breezy
 

Shivering… the stars in disarray

Yes, shivering....as the lonely waves below whisper upon the shore

 

As it did yesterday..

      And it will tomorrow.....

 

      Stirring the beauty held deep within

Leaving tiny glistening treasures to dress the sand

Making my dreams become smiles

 

But I cannot collect all the seashells on the beach

I’ll gather some,  treasure a few,  

If only to warm the stars and brighten my memories...

 

                 As I kissed the moon goodnight.

 

     She kissed the moon goodnight

 

And slipped away in the mist

Disappearing into the sapphire shadows

 

I reached for her, grasping hopelessly in the dark

As the sound of the tide left me wanting 

 

Hypnotized….. I longed for her touch, her voice

To again see the stars sparkle in her restless eyes

 

Footprints fade under the curling surf….

 

And my heart slinked beneath the blanket of a shimmering sea

 

               As she kissed the moon goodnight.

Such a soft view, full of warmth and the mysteries of nature, but leaving with a sense of sadness. Love the imagery of this, it's perfect for the pic and the form echoes the waves. I wanted to be right there with her. Time to go to the beach! Beautiful poem.
