Au Revoir

Au Revoir

A Poem by Ellie Venice

You held me close,

Kept me safe.

You let me know,

You loved me.

I fell for you,

Day after day,

Always forgetting your hate.

The first cut was the deepest,

When I saw you with her.

How you laughed and broke my heart,

When you seemed so happy with her.

The second cut was the hardest,

When you came to me the next day,

And told me you loved me.

For you did not know,

That I saw you the other night.

I wanted to yell at you, and hurt you,

Just like you had hurt me.

But it would have been redundant,

For you did not know.

You smiled like nothing happened,

Like you did nothing wrong.

But I knew better than to fall for your tricks,

That I had so easily gone for before.

Now I know better.

Now I don’t need you.

So, goodbye, dear lover,

For I now know.

I find the echo between "you let me know" and "now I know" commendable. It brings the poem full-circle, with a change.
(Welcome to the group, btw.)

Well written and a good storyline behind the words. Keep going, sometimes it is hard to find the writing style that moulds best with who you are, just keep writing and experimenting! :)
