Consequences

Consequences

A Poem by Curtis.Lenker

Loving you was a dream come true
I tore down my walls and let you in
loving you was  a safe place
for me to let down my defenses
loving you was young, wild, free
yet you tore my heart to pieces
not knowing what I did that was wrong
I sit and wonder why I let you in
now all that's left is our memories
memories I want to forget but can't
now darkness sets in and fills my heart
slowly rebuilding it and the walls I had
afraid to let anyone else in because of you
in my eyes you did no wrong
I cared for you so deeply
now I can not stand to even look at you
seeing you knowing I can not make it right
makes me want to destroy you the way you did me
I defended to every time anyone said bad
now I agree with every word they  say
dreams of a life together go up in smoke
loving you had nothing but consequences

I've written poems similar to this one, this one hit hard. I could feel your hurt in each word. Thank you for sharing. I hope that some day you gain peace from this heartbreak.

Thank you this one is hard for me to get over
Loving you had nothing but consequences ....
I absolutely love the passion and honesty you write with. The emotion is clear and I can really feel it, added with the imagery (I see a burning, tumbling tower as the walls are crumbling behind the defences you let down). Creatively its really clever, really enjoyed it!

Sober and true. When we fall in love, we look through rose coloured glasses-- never taking into account that perhaps our friends are right. The things you learn in life...

Good write consequences ,indeed , hard lessons to learn, poignant.

Sadly, life is full of consequences. Every step we take, every decision we make has consequences, most of them unintended. He may well have loved as much as he was able, just wasn't able to love as deeply as your own. Don't regret love - ever. Whether it thrives or fails, it is always love. What you feel is a result of your love for him, not his towards you; and if unreciprocated, the love will return to its source - YOU - to relinquish once again. Never forget to love yourself in the process.

Thank you for the kid words.
Such raw emotion displayed in this poem. You crafted it in such a way where you acted as the innocent bystander and your love acted as the invader. While your thoughts are recorded in this poem, I wonder what the other person's thoughts might have been? Whatever they were, the other person's thoughts does not seem well-intentioned.

Hang in there!
