Reflection

this is a poem about looking at yourself and accepting everything from the good to the bad

when you look in the mirror 

do you like what you see 

are you able to look past the flesh 

can you see past the bone 

can you look deep within yourself 

and see your very own soul 

if so do you like what you see 

do you hide your skeletons from yourself 

or are you like me the select few 

the few who can take something so 

dark, twisted, and broken and

see how beautiful and broken we are 

can you life the veil society put over our eyes 

look deep within yourself and accept the demons

I made mine my friends and my home 

I find solace knowing they are a part of me 

we all have wars we face and scars we hide 

I display my scars to show my fight 

does anyone notice not really 

but as long as I got my demons who cares 

I suggest that you accept who we really are 

the monsters you refuse to believe in 

they all live within you 

stop ignoring them and let the out 

only then can you accept the truth 

that we are all broken and its beautiful 

so take a good look at yourself 

are you everything you think you are 

or do you not know what your staring at 

always remember we are more than our reflection

Radical self-acceptance - perfectly expressed. One time, the only thing I could see in the mirror was darkness - spiritual death - lifeless eyes. But not so today - there is life behind those eyes now and a lively soul in the depths, which comes nearer to the surface the more I accept myself, good and bad. Oh, and the more I stop hiding from those skeletons that you mentioned!
