Far Away

Far Away

A Poem by UnendingOceans

“Far Away”

I walked and watched

the sun descend -

it plunged slowly into the ground

and while I looked

a bird flew by a song

of just a few seconds:

a shot of blue

against the burning orange and red

of a dying day.

I walked and waited

for something to happen

so bad my feet hurt -

no, wait, don’t bother me now

with fates that spin.

I walked and searched my memory

for what I was told

wasn’t important yesterday

but I’ll still go there

just as long as my shoes stay on

while my face grows long

from glances at the gloom and night

that chases the day away.

Everyday I ask

what I could do better,

my reflection see’s

a baby face with a beard

moving lips

to the sounds in his mind,

there I see,

there I see a grave already filled,

and a crow that calls to me,

plucks my eye and eats my old skin

from a tombstone that reads:

“Where’s home from here?”
