Just Beyond the Door

Just Beyond the Door

A Poem by Trent Files

As I gaze out from my window
I feel a sense of longing
For that which I cannot explain
Perhaps a sense of belonging
I watch through pale eyes as snow drifts through the streets
The streets of my humble mind
Dusted and empty
There is nothing here to find
I listen to reconciliation
Forgiving myself is the hardest part
But stopping now is all too easy
And I already have a broken heart

But when I step through this door born anew
I realize I do this every night
Born again amongst the stars
Watching as we take flight
Closing my eyes shuts out the world
That I would other wise suffer through
But in my dreams I can fly away
Across an ocean and sail straight to you

Set sail with me
And sail to another shore
Take my open hand
It's just beyond this door.
