Gasping

Gasping

A Poem by Samantha ~virginpoet

The weight of my heart
is crushing my lungs
into a sweet oblivion
of poetic torture

While my skin scars
beneath tears
marring my soul

My bones crumble
into volcanic ash

Everything I am

Everything I was

Everything
I could have been

Is lost in every
facile breath you take

And inside you
within that iceberg rib cage
lies a heart that will never
know how to love

"My bones crumble into volcanic ash"... That is such a great line. I can't help but be reminded of a phoenix. I love this piece. Wonderful work. Keep it up.

You know how to shape words like soft strings or sharp knives, splitting open mind and soul. Your writing only ever grows more poignant. xo

smiling here - that was the definition of facile as I took it within the poem. A power-full image you presented of an unmatched pairing.

The pain within each line is so entrancing and palpable. I was completely drawn into each word. The message was so intense. I absolutely loved it! Thank you for sharing.

You fluently express the powerful and sometimes all-consuming nature of love, and then that last stanza hits with a punch, expressing the hopelessness of loving someone who can't return those feelings. Lovely writing (again)!

When we become ice. Need a tropical love to make us heat up again. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.
