You do in fact learn through the journey. Always. Never by getting to some no existant destination. There is always something more. Always. There is always somewhere else to go and as Tenesee Williams csaid, "Time is the longest distance between two place".
And it is only through us that the universe and ultimately time percieves itself. Nothing else.

You know, i made tjhe drive from Nashville to Amarillo many, many times beginnin in 1999. I remember two of them... one when a rear tire blew its tread off and did $3800 damage, and the other when the pully on the AC compressor broke in the Texas heat. The important parts of any journey are the failures along the way...

It’s funny we are made of the same elements as some comets apparently. What really gets me is humans believe in an invisible God but destroy a visible nature. A belief is only a belief that’s all it is which gained popularity when science was very limited. I like these writes Vol , thanks I like delving into the universe.

i would tend to agree, "god the conscious universe". i think we're more than neurons, soul's with freewill i would say. great food for thought. maybe if we all took some time to think on such things i wouldn't have to turn on the news and hear about more shootings ... :)

Super neurons... with identity, self-awareness, personality, freewill and a unique set of whatevers to make it unique. But still a part of the whole.

A poet once wrote, "Perhaps we are just dreams in the mind of a sleeping god" and it's quite natural for any sentient being to contemplate the meaning of life. To a male lion the meaning of life is survival, to feed and breed and fight tooth and claw to maintain dominance in his pride. We aren't so far removed from the animals. We just have greater egos and vanities.

Douglas Adams traced its origins this way, "The History of every major Galactic Civilization tends to pass through three distinct and recognizable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry and Sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why, and Where phases... the third by the question 'Where shall we have lunch?'." This last is indicative of the shallow thinking that inevitably follows once said civilization realizes there is NO ANSWER as to "WHY?" Somewhere along the line of human development, someone finally asked "WTF?"
Seriously, though, and I have no idea what, where, or who I read that said something to the effect, "If the universe is conscious, then every particle within it must always strive for consciousness.. Since I pretty much live alone, I have a lot of time to talk over such matters with the only person I can count on to listen, myself.

I always enjoy a good exchange of ideas. I have Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (The Deluxe Edition) and still haven't read it. I mean to, some day. Elon Musk says it's his favorite book. Do we, as humans, always "strive" for consciousness? It seems that a lot of people would rather be unconscious or at least partially sedated from the full brunt force of life. The stress can be overwhelming for so many. I think life and the environment containing it need not always be sentient but there are exceptions. Gnosophysiology in plants studies whether plants have the ability to learn as well as to adapt. It wouldn't be "thought" as we understand it but there is so much we don't understand. It's interesting to contemplate.
The Hindus believe Brahman is the only reality and that each of us are projections of that reality. That's a lot to grasp, but for me it works better than the old man in the sky.

The ignorance of Christianity in portraying God as "the old man in the sky," is responsible for more conversions to Atheism than anything else I've ever heard about. The lack of understanding the difference between allegory and reality is unforgivable. I better stop... I might go on for days.

Don't get me wrong... I am still a believer in a personal God but would have been burned at the stake by just about any denomination or church I have ever encountered. My father and both sides grandparents were Assembly of God, speaking in tongues, wild-eyed Pentecostals, and I was as steeped in doctrine like no one I know... Fortunately, They and I have IQs and were always encouraged to use them.
Ultimately, when I consider the nature and existence of what we call "God," I've come to the obvious conclusion that there are only two choices, either there is one, or there is not. Takes exactly the same kind and amount of faith to believe either way. I choose Kierkegaard's "leap of faith," because i need meaning and purpose.
So, if there is a God, and the Quantum physicists are beginning to publish about a Conscious Universe," God would be cognizant of of every particle of his being, and every particle would be part of that consciousness. But then, that would only apply to the physical universe. And here's where both sides start collecting wood for piling around the stake; I believe there is a spiritual existence separate from the physical. That is where meaning and purpose are derived. And why every consciousness is a neuron firing experience, observation, insight, trauma, joy, all of it... and all of it will be more fully assimilated when freed from our current physical confinements.
Well, dang Baptist, I do go on, don’t I.

I love poems that have some science in them! It really does make you wonder what makes you, you? I don’t think we’ll ever solve this mystery. I really enjoyed your poem!

We would never know ourselves, I believe that's what makes it so entertaining. To watch ourselves evolve and devolve everyday, recoiling away from existence and non-existence all the same, and to ask questions we know we would never get answers to, because we are cogs, organisms belong to a large one. We are miniscule, without us, humanity would still go on, even without society, the spirit would still go on. In the end, humanity -in spirit- only worships itself. And its true identity, is unknown. We are aliens, to ourselves and in this vast space of the universe, we've learned more from the outside than we do the inside, of our bodies and spirits.
Regardless, another good one, author Vol, it did tickle my funny bones. I enjoyed it a lot.
