Flag Draped Coffin

Flag Draped Coffin

A Poem by A. V. Madison
"

I'm sure many parents have felt the pain that is hearing of their child's death in war.

"
A mother waits by the window
biting on her nail
waiting for her baby boy to come home from the Corps.
at the end of the day.

A black car pulls up
and her heart is in her neck
her baby drives a red truck, not this
her soul is a wreck

"We have some terrible news to tell you, ma'am,"
the man in a suit once said.
She held up her finger, "Don't," she plead,
and fell to her knees

It was a beautiful funeral,
for the lost young man
the mother never said a word,
but her silence could be heard

It was the silence of a woman broken
but she looked up to the sky
begged the Lord to watch over her son
begged the Lord to stand by

A flag draped coffin
held her baby boy
she clasped a hand over her heart
A heart that is destroyed

I have known people who lost sons and fathers. No words can cure the pain. I served for 15 years. Soldier's families will pay a lifetime of sadness for losing a love one. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.
