The Knife Behind Your Back

The Knife Behind Your Back

A Poem by A. V. Madison
"

I really have no idea what this is.

"

He smiled & asked me if I wanted to dance

the chill in his voice could never enhance

the way I felt as if I was on air, not land

so I stood and reached right out for his hand

He led me into the middle of the floor

we danced for awhile, but he said he wanted more

I wasn't comfortable with his hands on my hips

but I also wasn't okay when he kissed my lips

I told him to stop, that he was going too far

He was the kind of guy that had sex in his car

but I was the type of girl who could say no

I used to love him, not knowing he was so low

He looked in my eyes and said "C'mon, baby"

The whole room swirled and I was getting hazy

I guess romance is just something I lack

because I didn't see the knife behind your back

This is a good poem, strong, blunt. Not to be harsh but i truly do not enjoy poems that make you search and search for their theme. This is my kinda poem. And severely relatable. I enjoyed it.

''I guess romance is just something I lack''

I woulddn't call it that. Romance isn't that u lack, romance is somethng that the guy lacks since his desires is full of lust. I think teenagers are full of sexual desires than ever before. Too much porn is easily accessible and that the teenage guy dehumanizes the girl. no regard to the girls feelings as long as he gets his sex. and so much pressure on the teenage girls to please the boys to stay. great piece

I like this poem. It holds so much truth. Thank you for perhaps opening the eyes of some people about this topic. Maybe one reason that teens have become so sexual is because of the increase use of the internet. 20 years ago, people didnt have that and therefore there were less ways to become trapped and exposed to so many sexual ways of doing things. It is very sad to see teens fall to this. I know I am a teen myself, 15. I never engage in any of this stuff though. I feel it is wrong and wrecks peoples lives.
Sorry for blabbing on. Great poem!

This is beautiful, almost lyrical.
Such a subject is used a lot, but the way that you put it and say it makes it fresh and makes me feel like its a topic I've never read about. Bravo, this is brilliant...

This isn't especially sexual in nature, because the girl says no. But boys will fool one who give in...because you really don't see the knife. You're capable of working that one phrase "I didn't see the knife behnd your back" into a nifty song..."I thought I had it all, but I didn't know the facts/Because I never saw the knife behind your back"...
