Jealousy

Jealousy

If only this ghost did not love me the most.

Jealousy

those color-washed eyes in your days

And artificial lights around you.

A musical applause and a rain of clichés.

I saw them dazzling, Green, Yellow and blue

You were quiet lonely

But I watched as you were growing.

Black hair clean and trimmed.

Your imperfect set of teeth showing.

I had intended to be the first

The one to tear into the walking dead

To press against your shoulder

And show them a lifted head

Show the grey envious crowd

The beautiful child within

The skin of a woman

How the weak sincere smile

In your black irises

Completed the green in mine.

I would have loved

To feel your modest speck of joy

But in my heart

Stomps the tear-smudged whine of a boy

If only this ghost

Did not love me the most

And if only he

Had not this hobby

To linger

And burrow holes free

Beneath my chest

With one finger

And when raw flesh

Behind the colorful dress

Grew brave enough to heal

The ugly ghost would reach

To embrace and I would kneel

Into black sighs and a screech

Between what is and what is not real

I would close my eyes

And I would see you at unease

Falling on a theater stage. Breathless.

And I would stare at my palms with a wheeze

Not believing that I had been sleepless

Merely to wish for your heart to crease

Not able to conceive

That I had tried to strangle you

In my dreams and I heaved

Another plea to Him

Who needs no rest or sleep

That this reek of jealousy would leave

So that I would return to counting sheep.

Nice imagery and I like the dream quality of the whole poem, often our subconscious mind works through powerful emotions, in daydreams as well as night ones. I liked the ending, where you just wanted relief from those jealous emotions, and to sleep in peace. patricularly liked " the raw flesh behind the colorful dress".....what a powerful line...jealousy has burrowed a hole into your heart and you have a sizeable wound now....but you cover it with a lovely colorful dress....and i liked the theater imagery, as if someone got the leading role that you coveted, literally or figuratively. Great poem.

Second and fifth stanza are my favorite. I read it out loud and those parts just fall out of my mouth easily.
