Covergirl and Beauty

This is a poem about beauty.

Covergirl is weird and strange,

They just want you to change,

Blue and purple sparkly eye shadow,

Blood-red lipstick and scented balms,

Beautiful greens like leaves on palms,

All the little, desperate girls,

Ruin themselves with make-up and pearls,

All they want is to be pretty,

But they destroy themselves with self pity,

Covergirl is weird and strange,

With their crazy neons and stupid colors,

Their models try to make you feel imperfect,

To try to make you to spend your money,

I don’t even think it’s funny,

Sure you can smell like strawberries or roses,

With all their lip balm and their poses,

But with Covergirl you will see,

Your outer “beauty” is not free,

Their “glamorous” golds all over your lids,

Covergirl just tells you fibs,

With Covergirl, you will want to change,

And they know, they are very strange,

Don’t you see what’s in their name,

“Cover” is right there, in burning flames,

They want to kill you, oh yes they do,

With their makeup, their reds and blues,

But don’t you see what’s already in you,

Your beauty is there and every see it too,

Yes every, all but you,

So don’t believe those pretty faces,

With all their Covergirl and their laces,

We all have beauty, yes we do,

We all have beauty, especially you

What do you think of it? I made this last year, keep that in mind. I wasn't a great writer last year, according to me.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! So AWESOME! I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was 15, and now I'm 16 and I still don't wear it! xD It's so much trouble and I'm just like, "Girl you pretty anyways." SO yeah, your poem. It's perfect and wonderful and amazing. I enjoyed it. The colors were also very nice. My favorite line was, "'Cover' is right there, in burning flames," I was just blown away. It's amazing. Girls don't need makeup and I agree with you whole heartedly! We don't need to hide who we really are!

I love my makeup and my pearls. I like painting my face in sparkling shades that subtly go with my outfit. I really, really love my pearls. They were once my grandmother's. My grandfather gave them to her as an anniversary gift, I think, some 50 years ago by now. The pearls always make me feel... I don't know... And the red lipstick too, makes me feel old-fashioned and fancy!

i do not understand the reference to the greens.

And neons, going to insult those too? Neon green and the hottest of pinks, make me so happy! I love to play with colors. I like the attention. I won't deny it, when I walk into the room full of gray drab and beige when I shimmer and sparkle and reflect and nearly glow.

I think think you have attacked the wrong here. Now, I don't read those damn magazines. They're boring as hell, but the advertisements... I love those! And the spreads showing dramatic elements of fashion, not the ones with celebrities, I skip those. But don't you see, painting up yourself like that is an act of art! It has nothing to do with beauty.

Yes every,.."- everybody would prob work better.

The poem is well written, I'll give you that, for sure, I just can't get on board with the content.

I don't think any of those things make girls feel bad about themselves... the blame for that, in my opinion lies elsewhere. You write wonderfully, I just can't seem to leave my damn soapbox at home!

Its a great message for girls everywhere. The pressures to be "beautiful" in todays society can really damage a persons perception of themself.

Thank you Riley! Many more people need to be less insecure about themselves and how they look. Everyone is beautiful, no matter what anyone says. It really shouldn't bring them down, but it does. I have experience, it's still going on, but I'm getting used to thinking I'm pretty. I still don't think I am, but whatever. Point is, thanks!

Your talent is evident now and can be seen in this earlier poem too. Maybe not absolutely perfectly worded but such a great job done of conveying the message you wanted too. Thank you so much! I made this one last year, when I was eleven (but I was nearly twelve. Point is, I didn't have as much knowledge as I do now.) That really means a lot to me. I've never thought of myself as talented at anything. Thank you!

A fine commentary on modern society. I do not think it is really as bad for everyone as the poem pertrays it though. I like "girls" that take the time to look good... Still, too many of us have low self exteem and take measures to extreems and let ourselves be taken advantage of. The monster is not Covergirl. It is the mind of the individual that take matters out of perspective.
