Daisies

Daisies

A Poem by willweb

);(

Junior picked a daisy

for the girl just down the street

He'd seen her for a few weeks now

and found her very sweet

But as he walked along the way

to get to her front door

Lightning struck and thunder boomed,

the skies began to pour

He ran till he was underneath

the oldest big oak tree

It was by far, the driest place

nearby that he could be

He looked down at the daisy

and the petals very white

That's when a thought came to his head

that seemed to be so right

He pulled the first one off the stem,

she loves me, then he said

Another perfect petal came

the daisy now had shed

Before too long just one remained,

his fingers they did reach

But now he knew the answer that

would come that it did preach

She loves me not rang through his mind

as he strolled towards his home

Then sat upon the wet front step

just frowning all alone

He sat there till the sun returned

so brightly in the sky

The rain had stopped, the clouds were gone,

the ground was turning dry

When then he saw that little girl

come walking with a grin

She had a daisy in her hand

and handed it to him

I picked this for you just to see

if you would like to play

Let's pull the petals off of it,

see what it has to say

He thought and thought, his frown it grew

for just a little while

When then his eyes they opened wide

and now he wore a smile

Ok, he said, but this is what

I think that we should do

Let's start it with, "She loves me not"

if that's ok with you

: )

Thanks so much my friend.
A very endearing poem and one that delves so deeply on every heart's wish to be loved. Junior was no different and it was wonderful how they resolved the dilemma. You're such a truly delightful romantic, my friend and your words renew our faith in love too.

What an incredible monologue. Wonderful, whimsical and light. Until the storm. And then again afterwards. Love it.

Thank you so much Ken. I am glad you liked it.
I loved the story and its lightness as it then drifted dark only to come back again with a hopeful ending. The rhyme fit the story and brought the image of childhood. I also remember this game and as a child noticed that certain flowers had odd or even petals and depending on how you started the answer was always guaranteed. Great write I enjoyed it.

Ah, the sweet innocence of youth, where how many petals a flower had has the peculiar ability to crush your soul and ruin your life forever, or until dinner time at the very least.
It reminds me of a playtime break that was cancelled because of (surprise surprise) rain and we had to stay in class. Some bright spark decided we all had to vote on who we fancied and it nearly destroyed me when the girl I liked got three votes. I swore then that two people had to die.
I never did find out who they were, but I always let her catch me during kiss chase just to make them jealous. And I didn't see her giving anyone else a choc biccy from her lunchbox, so by default I win and they lost 😊

This is such a sweet and charming poem! I love how it captures the innocence and playfulness of childhood crushes. The way Junior picks the daisy and tries to determine the girl's feelings for him is so relatable and cute. The twist at the end when the girl hands him a daisy to play the same game is heartwarming, and it shows how simple gestures can bring joy and connection between people. Overall, this poem is a delightful reminder of the beauty of young love and the magic of childhood. Thank you for sharing it!
