Her eyes with their twinkle, her cheeks with their blush

Her eyes with their twinkle, her cheeks with their blush

A Poem by willweb

Her eyes with their twinkle, her cheeks with their blush

~

Her eyes with their twinkle, her cheeks with their blush,

she offers a biscuit and asks, “what’s the rush?”

The door stands wide open, a mat for my feet,

she says, “come inside, won’t you please take a seat?”

I sit in her kitchen, a chair made of straw

she wears a shy smile as if something might fall

Her dress made of cotton is worn like a bloom,

a flowery pattern that lights up the room

It tickles her fancy, she lets out a laugh,

then pours cherry wine from a painted carafe

A tablecloth fabric in gingham and blue

with dishes and spoons, knives and forks, set for two

The cabinets look polished, a maple veneer,

with handles of crystal that glisten quite clear

The stove set to boil, the fridge set to freeze,

I ask for a tissue, I fear I might sneeze

With curtains of daisies and carpets of lawn,

I sit with her happily, dusk until dawn

And then when she’s yawning, the moon up ahead,

I bid her farewell as I head off to bed

No slumber this evening, that means there’s no sleep,

I’ve counted the neighbors out counting their sheep

My lids feeling heavy with dreams now in wait,

It’s her I am missing as it’s getting late

But morning is coming and twilight is near

and when I arise, I will hope she is here

For then we’ll be playing our song to the morn,

her on piano and me on French horn

We’ll follow a butterfly over a hill

and place a red rose in a vase on the sill

She’ll whisper “I like you”, as I call her name,

I’ll whisper right back, telling her just the same

The happiest ending, like fairytale lore

will come with us strolling together once more

Yet all I will see in this valley so lush,

her eyes with their twinkle, her cheeks with their blush

Again the acoustic songs that you do so well. The musicality and the smoothness of the writing. I can hear the melody from here.

A very smoothly rhymed piece, a very romantic setting. It seems to me, though, that you're losing a lot of sleep over this chick. I hope you're not driving, too.

As always, a fine tale of a meeting that blooms into love written in your usual smooth rhyme and verse. I appreciate your use of description to fit the rhyming flow and use of certain words at times that are rarely attempted in such tight forms. Carafe, springing to mind as one example. Always the romantic, Willweb. I appreciated this latest journey through the verses of love.

I adored the above lines. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

You are welcome Will.
You know Will, I reckon you've got the hang of this poetry lark. I first picked up a pen at what I then thought was an old age of 25, but thirty years later, I still haven't plucked up the courage to sit the exam. I reckon it'll be at least another thirty years added to the ones I've been writing for before plouk up the cirage to sit them and not mistakes like I just done. I'll get the hang of this writing someday, but for now I haven't even found out where the charger fits on the pen. 😊
Beautifully captuerated
