The Epic Battle

The Epic Battle

A Poem by Brian 'Yeti' Fields

Poem inspired by my high school's rivals, the Dearborn Pioneers.

"

How can a war over something so small

Have an impact on life that resounds so far?

In fact, it seems that the conflict is about nothing at all

But year in and year out, we would die to see them fall

Each year, they know its coming, they yearn as do we

It’s there, before our training starts, it always will be

We see the frustration on our general’s brow; we hear the venom on his lips

He’s there, pushing us from the start: he makes sure we’re all well equipped

We appoint his lieutenants, and they keep us in line

We’re all in this together, and the war is always on our minds

Each day is just another step closer to the line

Each battle is just another practice until it’s time

When the true clash is really here, you can see it in our eyes

We’re nothing but mere brutes at this point, fighting to survive

Blindly going forward into battle, running on nothing but strength and scorn

Win or lose, the next year, the war continues on

On one side, Annapolis; on the other, Dearborn
