Two Red Ripe Tomatoes

Two Red Ripe Tomatoes

A Story by Michael Reisman

Bob moved back to his old neighborhood where he grew up as a kid. It was quite amazing that it was on the exact same block as the real estate agent showed him the same house he once lived in with his parents. The deal was done and Bob owned his very first home. Familiar basement steps led to an outdoor garden he once watered and mowed for mom and dad. His next door neighbor was picking red ripe tomatoes from her garden as he introduced himself. Bonnie invited him over for dinner in order to get acquainted with her new neighbor. Besides, there was a mutual attraction between them. It turned out that her new home was also once her parents house that she moved back into one year ago. Crazy coincidence or something more? After a pasta dinner she served a lettuce salad with two red ripe tomatoes for each of them. He asked her to help him also grow them in his backyard and she did just that. That's when their dating began. One summer later she was invited over for dinner. He proudly smiled as he served them a lettuce salad with two red ripe tomatoes picked from his garden. It was the following year when the bride Bonnie and the groom Bob sat together at their wedding table. She pulled some items out of a zip lock bag, cut them up and placed them on each of their lettuce salads. They smiled, then laughed, then hugged and kissed. Now coming from the same garden just downstairs from the home they both live in. Two red ripe tomatoes.....
