Our Dad

Our Dad

A Poem by Andrew John

Dad steps back into this room.
Today is his birthday,
soon to be his wedding anniversary.
The day before yesterday marked
the date of his engagement.

Yes, this is Dad, he strolls back,
back into my life.
Dad does this kind of thing,
a father we all love, recall.
He᾽s been gone for ten years now.

Hello Andrew, my father has been gone for 50 years and the smell of his pipe tobacco in my mind has finally faded after all this time.
i still light a candle on his birthday ... and miss him on father's day, strange really but it is a compulsion .

It was a lifetime ago, the raw grief faded over time and now i just think of him as a lovely memory.
A much loved Father remembered by his children. It seems your Dad calls on you as mine does with me. Mine, gone now 32 years but never forgotten. A very touching poem Andrew. So relatable. Anniversaries can be most poignant.

Many thanks, Chris. (We seem to be writing poems about fathers.)
