I was never in love with you

I was never in love with you

A Poem by ~amanda~

I was never in love with you,

I was in love with the poems,

The songs I wrote and compiled for you.

I was never in love with you,

I was intoxicated by you,

The intricate way you held my hand,

Let me kiss you, let me cry with you,

And convinced me I was not alone.

I was never in love with you,

I loved the scent of your cologne,

The kind I bought you for valentine’s day,

That somehow managed,

To permeate my senses completely.

I was never in love with you,

I loved the sound you made,

Whenever I made you laugh, or smile,

That sound you only made,

A handful of times because of me.

I was never in love with you,

I was in love with the promises,

The allure of a summer we never got to spend,

The places we never got to see.

I was not in love with you.

Were you ever in love with me?

this is a very emotionally powerful piece, especially the last two lines.

far too often we fall in love with the attributes and behaviors of a companion instead of the person themselves. It can lead many people astray and it almost always ends badly.

Great work.

this is a sad story that too often comes to be with relationships...to let the outer appearances be the deciding factors instead of what is really on the inside. to be in love with someone involves the whole person...i have discovered this along my life's journey and i too, sometime forget this. to get wrapped up with the feel of 'love', we fail to see that there is more to it than that.

a good write, Amanda.

I know this feeling, I had apoem years ago, or maybe it was a dear john letter that I said I was in love with love, I got to look for that. I can relate to these words fully, we get so caught up in the emotion that we mistake the passion and lust for the intamcy of love. Well written.

Ouch!

As much as this was sad
and left without answers
for you , this was such a beautiful
piece and I really enjoyed reading this

It was strong and tragic with
an excellent flow

Great work Amanda

Your last line is the burning question Amanda, I think people know the answer to that by instinct. It takes two to make a loving couple and two to see it to fruition and beyond. i think that is all I have to say about this as it speaks for itself in so many ways, nothing obscure here xxx Take care.

Great piece...I think that every person sings this song at some point in their lifetime.
When it ends you are left with the feeling of the last line of your poem...
Nice flow too.
Creatively different...you are never afraid to push the envelope it seems. (Which is a good thing)

Many of us will lifetimes searching for actual love. On many occasions during those lifetimes we will stumble across something we think is love, only to realize in the end...as you have masterfully pointed out...that perhaps, there was never such a thing.

A wonderful piece .... of Love & modern relation ... Specially the following concluding lines are pretty appealing and created the beauty of it all ...

I was never in love with you,
I was in love with the promises,
The allure of a summer we never got to spend,
The places we never got to see.

this is very well written.. to me reading it it sounds like love .. it is as many others have said, trying to convince themselves they were not in love when they in actuality was very in love with the person who held your hand so intricately.. very nice work . well, not work, i should say creativity..
