It's late at night

It's late at night

A Poem by Alisia

Its late at night

Should be asleep

But my mind is wide awake

Can’t stop the thoughts

Running through my mind

They won’t shut off

This playlist is on repeat

And the record is broken

I can’t turn it off

And I can’t mute it

I try to tune them out

But you know how that goes

So finally, I give in

I listen to the record

Of my past

And next thing I know

I see everything in my head

I can’t stop the show

The movie is going, and I can’t get up from my seat

I’m the only audience

As much as I don’t want to see it

I don’t want to forget it

At one point everything was good

But as everyone says

All good things must come to an end

Tears roll down my check

Can’t stop them

Its automatic

I try to erase the bad memories

But it seems to be set in stone

No way to uncarve them

So, I end up replaying them in my head

I can’t help it

Its on a burn DVD

That’s burned in my head

No way to erase the past

Or the memories

Yes - been there - your words resonant a familiar theme which most of us have gone through - regret(s) has a habit of replaying what we what to forget - and - it gets worst when we are alone late at night … :-)
