We All Live In the Same Fear

We All Live In the Same Fear

A Poem by allie_arrowz

We all live in the same fear

The same dreaded clothing

Worn, mended, hand-me-downs

We wear it every day

Wearing it in the hopes that someone will make the effort

Take the time to rip it off of you

And let you feel the freedom from the fear

The fear that binds us to each other for comfort

The fear that drives us to scream because of broken vases

And spilled cups

The fear that makes us honk our horns

And give people the finger

When in truth

The sun is shining

The leaves are green

And we feel love everywhere

But this fear is what is controlling us

It is you knowing that one day the happiness may slip between your desperate fingertips

That one cup that stole the last of the coffee

That one disapproving frown

That one word you said in the heat of the moment

And it is all gone

All the cherished security of the heart has left

And you are completely

And utterly

alone.

Is fear of being alone what human beings dread most? Perhaps, but I spend a lot of time by myself, and it hardly terrifies me.
Of course, what's probably meant by "being alone" in this context, is not having a love interest who cares deeply for you; constantly needs to be in your company; wants to please you.
That, I think, is a legitimate fear; maybe, even, the worst fear.
Your poem, Allie, dramatically explores fear and the disruptive effect it can have on people--especially if we allow it to rule our lives.
Worthwhile work, young poetess.

Your "rambling" flows out in quite the creative rivers... A moving metaphor of life and our existence... ever so alone in the world, yet wanting to belong... to connect to others... May we recognize our fears and rise above them in a fierce courage...

It hit me in the last lines when you said,
"And it is all gone
All the cherished security of the heart has left
And you are completely
And utterly
alone."

Heat of the moment is just making me pay a lot for the mistakes I've done....there is a line I once wrote...now I see I've got the feeling echoed in someone else's writing in this poem!
Good one! Keep up the rambling! It often ends up with wonderful verses you never know you can write!

Anger and sadness can lead us to a bad place. Sometime better for us when we have no patience. Find a quiet place to re-set the mind. I agree with your thoughts. I like the flow of thoughts and the strong ending. Thank you for the excellent poem.
