Corporate Wolves

Corporate Wolves

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Corporate Wolves.
There's no way
I was born
to pay bills,
survive and
just die.
The Wolves
of management
close in,
teeth baring,
needing to cull,
balancing books,
correcting mistakes.
Theirs!
Red eyes staring
shuffling looking,
unannounced,
Convictions served.
Who's next through the backdoor?
Who cut my family tree?
The one with all the riches
to be shared, cut.
An inheritance lost, wasted.
Mine!
The hounds so few,
the howling begins
closer, the kill.
Its started.

Contradictory to your first stanza, unfortunately, that's what most of us end up doing (unless people are free-thinking writers like us!). Count yourself lucky that you were born with a creative mind and can see through the bullshit. This poem was great and I liked how you compared the rich corporate men and women to wolves.

And the man on the street is left on the street as he wonders how his life fell apart around him when it was only last week they were thinking of vacations in the summer. The axe wielded, the innocent fall. Same old story, the rich get richer, the end.
Superb Andrew.

What an acute poem, full of emotion, full of thoughts so many of us feel. You place words very succinctly, cleverly. Power is money, money is power.. the man on the street can only stand by and wonder 'where the hell have Ethics and a fair share gone?!
