definition of a father

definition of a father

A Poem by nathan
"

this is to commemorate the days I used to hate my dad

"

He broke your spine

to keep you from standing up to him

replaced it with a column of dos and don't s

rules that barred you from a single intake of breath

without his say.

He put the fear of God in you:

he was God so he pruned you

to grow no more than the height of his thumb.

poor kid you never stood a chance

never learnt to play or dance

He took you strung you

made you his own personal pet

and you saw the world through his eyes:

you saw your futility

and the world was a very critical place.

Now you're all grown up,

a master of your own destiny

but then why, oh why does he still

make you feel so small?

unfortunately this is an experience for too many... I think that you captured the emotion so beautifully. Said very simply and I like that.
