Childhood Nights

Childhood Nights

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

How sweet our former lives.

"

me Tony Kernie

Me on the left Tony in the middle and Kerny on the right

In dreams of my sweet former life

 with the wonders childhood poses

I find those friends I left behind

still so young and fresh like roses

I wonder if to them I'm old

when they think upon occasion

Do they wonder as, I do

of that inner child's persuasion

To me they are the cherished ones

memories of lost summer nights

When we played hide and seek till dark

enriched by all life's smells and sights

In dreams they live on as before

echoes of games we use to play

I start each night as they ended

with the dreams from yesterday

This is great Tate! I have some of those same memories, how sweet they are.

I noticed when I was in my teen years vacationing in Tampa Fla., that the octogenarians looked back at their memories and related their stories to me, or anyone who would listen, with fondness. I loved to hear those true tales of yesteryear. I try to look forward to the good times yet to come, but it is not as comforting as the true life memories iv'e become attached to. Funny what runs through one's mind while reading another's words. Thanks for the reminder that it is OK to reminisce.

I have had such happiness, not just as a child...my memories, if I would let myself look at them, are beautiful.....I try to think that there are good memories ahead of me...

With a simplicity of words, you have again produced a very sophisticated write. And as always a very good read.

So well said. It's nice to our childhood memories!

Yes, you expressed well our yearning to return to our childhood and see our friends again and play our games... but there is another place in our memories that we do not want to revisit --the pains that dwell there haven't lost their abillity to sting and amputate.... but all my friends [and I as well ]are young there and run and leap and jump on those horses and ride like the wind again

A very sweet nostalgic trip, back to when life was fresh and new, before disillusionment and age set in. Thank God for our memories, Tate.
