Believe In Me

Believe In Me

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I for one did stay behind , when everyone else grew up.

"

Granddaughter Payton

If snow turned to ice ‘cream

milky ways were candy bars

Then the sky turned lucid

and began to rain stars

 _________________________

Mud pies taste like cookies

fall leaves would turn to gold

I'd fly to Santa's Castle

without ever getting cold

 _________________________

The wild west witch would love me

as she brewed her dinner of souls

I'd have all my fine clothing

bright and shiny none with holes

 _________________________

Where did all the innocence go

how did we get so jaded

What did we do with all those dreams

could our lives be so faded

__________________________

I for one did stay behind

when everyone else grew up

I don't want to be a dog

I'd rather be a pup

We may not be able to go back there .But in my mind is a story still unfinished of a curious boy and the adventures of the big world.

Oh yes! I wish I'd read this before because by now I'd have read it a dozen or more times - if you know what I mean!

Love the thought of never growing up, living in a world of sweet make-believe where life is jumping in puddles and thunder is only mischievous angels slamming Heaven's gates!

There's a sweet juxtaposition of thought in this : ' The wild west witch would love me. As she brewed her dinner of souls. I'd have all my fine clothing. Bright and shiny none with holes.'

Thank you for sharing this .. it's all heart!

This is refreshing for me. You paint it quite simple while growing up, everything became complicated. I miss those days. The music was great also.

I love the way you wrote this in the font and lines separating the stanzas. I also loved the rhyme and meter, it flowed. And very descriptive. However, I didn't like the song in the background, I thought it was distracting. Thanks for sharing.

I can relate to what you've written,
full of wisdom, soft as a kitten
we can't refuse time,or so I'm told,
I for one, refuse to grow old,
we can't re-use time,go back in the past,
what would we change,it's history at last,
they'll call me senile to my last day,
inside my heart the youth will stay...

There are so many things about childhood that would be amazsing to revisit. I don't think we ever attain adulthood. I still take small pleasures from silly things as I did when I was a child, and more and more you see the joy revisited seeing it through the eyes of your own children.

Lovely poetry Tate :)

Wow, this is awesome. I for one would much rather be the pup. I'm the Peter Pan in my group of friends so I can really connect to your poem. Well done.

I love this! Just the thought of never growing up is time consuming cause you remember all the things you can do when your little. Your lists just added more to mine. I really enjoyed this. Good job

I rather be a pup too. Age take away too much hope. I like the story of hope and dreams of youth. A excellent poem.
