A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Don't fear the ones with their own ways For they may know what we do not

"

We come into life as innocents

no prejudice upon our soul

Washed clean by a new beginning

not a single debt, nor a toll

We have two choices most of us

codes of fathers we just swallow

Or blaze a path in loneliness

others wonder but don't follow

It is that rare one we may find

who chooses to go his own way

These are the ones we all admire

not for them but us we should pray

Fearless souls unafraid to die

they the ones bucking convention

Who teach us all our life's follies

by adding a new dimension

As life progresses onward

to it's predestined conclusion

We learn then teach the least of us

to see truth not the delusion

Don't fear the ones with their own ways

for they may know what we do not

He who turns toward forgiveness

has discovered what most forgot

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. "

if people could glimpse at how different life would be if even half of us forgave... timeless words and an ever-welcomed message, even if we think we are hardwired to hate. thanks for this.

Yes, forgiveness is a powerful thing. I come from vindictive DNA (viking stock) and i get territorial. For me - I've had to learn to forgive. Its tough but ultimately it is the right choice to make. This is a wonderful poem

Simple yet profound. And you seem to do it with most of your poems. I really like the sentiments expressed in this poem and they are aided by an easygoing rhyme and rhythm. Indeed, many who scorn the well-trodden parts end up being social misfits. In many cases, people have a grudging respect for them, but also a kind of fear, like you say. In some cases, there is even a dislike. And you advise us against such prejudice in a familiar but effective way.
My favourite lines here were
"Or blaze a path in loneliness
others wonder but don't follow"
Well done, Tate! Thank you!

I admire your poem tremendously, Tate. Inspirational people are necessary icons, but I have to offer a cautionary note, in that history shows that when some of these unique personalities are followed blindly, all hell can break loose. Wisdom is both sometimes vilified, sometimes worshiped, erroneously. One man`s wisdom is another`s anathema.
Thanks for sharing a poem that makes me think. P.

It wonderful and philosophic

I disagree with Rick...if a poem speaks to you..it should have a 100. To say that something is never finished...is mostly true. But who's to judge when a poem or painting is done? For example, Leonardo da Vinci felt he always left his artwork unfinished....Later it was quoted; he regretted "never having completed a single work". But who would dare give him a 98 rating for unfinished work? Not I..........

Ah "the Thinker"...how else can we gain Knowledge and insight...
Very astute and perceptive observations, Tate
about life and truth...
Forgiveness is the right thing to do....and intellectually appears to be a no brainer..
however, when we can't forgive and forget...perhaps the wound is often deeper and more severe, then simple words can cure. A gallant effort though on your part Tate.
Nicely done.

True words, Tate.
The late Sam Cooke's rendition of "A Change Is Gonna Come," is a perfect fit for this poem. It's been one of my personal favorites for years.
