Soul Mates

Soul Mates

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So many lifetimes come and go between ill spent youth and the grave Hopes and dreams of generations Are the memories we all save

"

How many times have I met you

in the strangers that passed me by

Were you the one that touched my coat

the friend that once kissed me goodbye

How often have we stood in line

just to watch loved ones go to war

Then brushed away the tears of hope

as they ran off to join the Corps

Were you the one whose heart had ached

when my ship drifted out to sea

The foundered soul whose anchor broke

the one whose dreams had yearned for me

Are we destined to always be

just passing strangers in the night

Whose ebbing flowing tides of love

never met when the time was right

So many lifetimes come and go

between ill spent youth and the grave

Hopes and dreams of generations

hold the memories we all crave

Perhaps I'm just the little child

with a heart that once broke in two

Who walks the well-worn streets of old

searching for memories of you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
Don't we all wonder if another is the one for whom we were meant?
How many lifetimes must we pass by before our soul finds it's hearts desire?
This was for the green eyes cased in Honey Hue, that I once knew.
May she find this dream to be her own .

This piece simply makes me swoon in the ideals of such times. This is by far, one of my favorites. Tate, you have donr it again, made me simply have to stop and stare at the beautiful scene you have laid out here. "Are we destined to always be,
just passing strangers in the night" Even for a moment to pass by one so precious, it would be worth a lifetime. I can nearly hear the brass band in the distance.

I love that verse Tate. Made me think of knowing if we are an old soul or a new birth.

Great write and wonderful read.

Yes, this is wondered often. Is it a case of not meeting at the right time? will they meet again? and a thousand other thoughts all striving to be the one that finds the answer. No matter what the answer, or fate holds, i believe these connections always stay in place and although life goes on, they are often thought of and never forgotten.
As always Sir, Excellent, nay perfect words once more.

shew..I'm covered in goose bumps. The first stanza really stuck out because I have felt this very way. The ending scares the hell outta me because umm I'd like to be able to move from a past relationship that I can't seem to shake. But soul mates are forever aren't they. The rhythm scheme was dead on and I also love the pic..of course. Excellent poem. Thanks for leading me here. I can honestly say that I love everything you write Tate. You will always be a true poet in my eyes.

The first stanza pulled me into this amazing piece...The last stanza, broke my heart. The yearning for the soul mate is profound. Excellent write.

This was beautiful. The chance meeting that could never be. The questions surrounding as well as the peace one feels. This was amazing . Your words are very romantic and endearing. Great work.
