The Ides of Winter

The Ides of Winter

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Our days lit by constant sunshine strength in numbers was our design In hand me downs we ran through town with baseball bat and ball of twine

"

Our days lit by constant sunshine

strength in numbers was our design

In hand me downs we ran through town

with baseball bat and ball of twine

By golden skies and rustled tree

for reasons yet unknown to me

My eyes were keen to beauty seen

this soul my own as I was free

When Ides of Winter come to be

oh times when lives were all carefree

Follow my track all the way back

to friends who meant so much to me

WOW.. Awesome!

"Then we aged the world took over"

^ Amazing how you shift the pulse and meaning of the poem with just one line!

"When Ides of Winter come to be

Got me nostalgic there :( Perfect write brother! :) Keep writing.

This is a really effective description of the way we look back at our childhood days with rose tinted spectacles. It was always summer and friends were always true and everything was positive and life was easy.

I like the nice touch in the second stanza when you reveal that this isn't just a shallow, visual recollection of how things were. You actually remember the feelings and recognise that perhaps you saw life itself differently, "My eyes were keen to beauty seen this soul my own as I was free'. Maybe childhood is the only time in our lives when we are actually free?

The conclusion of the poem also makes the reader think. What happened to those friends who were so dear to us? Why is it that age makes us overlook those 'young ties' and we find ourselves with only memories of 'friends who meant so much to me'.

This poem has made me recall my childhood. Yes, we had cricket not baseball and it rained most of the time but there was that feeling of freedom. That's what a good poem should do and this is definitely a good poem.

I remember the movie of this picture you put up. This is very nice poem, all we have is memories of good time like those; running around our neighborhoods with our friends.
