Foundations

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So each man will look back in time taking stock in the life he led To find if he is left wanting and for who and what he has bled

"

Tate

Heir to the dreams of this fathers heart,Tatertot.

Man can work sunrise to sunset

and thereby finding none of joy

Look far to the past for comfort

to the days when he was a boy

The pleasures come in kind smiles

confirming both field and station

Building along the path of life

friendships that speak to foundation

A native son of the Midwest

my life and soul are both free

What I wish to share with my child

is that sweet gift once given me

So each man will look back in time

taking stock of the life he led

To find if he is left wanting

and for who and what he has bled

Those times I see in my own child

of any things he missed there’s none

Creating dreams he’ll long cherish

watching him grow in Midwest sun

I often wish if only all children could be so blessed. To be shined on by providence. Born a native son to the Midwest.

we had it made didn't we Tate! our generation (i fear) was the last to find the innocence shared in our growing up ... when stealing apples from a neighbors tree was a worse of crimes ... sneaking a smoke behind the barn or a beer out in the thicket ... golden times when guys settled things after school with fists and that was that..when it ended (usually less than 5 min.) it was over and we all walked away friends ... how i also wish those kinds of memories for my grandchildren now ..thank the good Lord my children made it to adulthood and are contributing to life ... but they have their own memories i am not privy to ;) wonderful poem as always...full of wisdom, rhyme and rhythm!

I must give you a pat on the back for this one. Nostalgia is not always a bad thing when good memories are what you're looking for.

Well said.

Small pleasures are usually more of a joy than the largest riches in this world. I have a son and a daughter and watching them learn and grow daily is possibly what has kept me sane. I adore the gentle rhyming scheme and the reflectiveness of this poem.

Another astounding work.

Your reflections are enlightening, filled with heartfelt emotion. Thank you for giving us such a rich example of life as it should be. (The Midwest is a wonderful place to grow up.)

Good message as always and a nice rhythm for the most part (perfect rhyming as well). The 18th line really needs help (the foot and rhyme are there, but the way it reads is jarring). Good music to match the words. :-)
