The Fire of Winter

The Fire of Winter

A Poem by Briana O'Connor

The wind scorches the flesh...

Like fire.

White rain dampens the hair...

Sending tremors up the spine.

A blanket covers the ground...

But it’s frozen,

Granting no security.

Winter...

It spreads it’s flames

Destroying the greenery...

The outdoorsman's joy.

It rules the land

For months on end,

Trapping souls indoors,

Shivering at the concept

Of trudging through slush.

But alas,

It will end...

So we hope...

We wait

For the day

The sun demolishes

The icy fire.

I use to live in Pennsylvania so I can relate to this… the start of winter is nice but after a while of extreme cold and staying indoors I get cabin fever and cannot wait to open the windows and doors and feel spring kiss my skin. Another beautifully penned poem.

Yes I understand this feeling too well coming from England but I have just read your homage to summer and its good to cool off, I think of the three seasons so far this is my favourite you really get deep into the feeling of ice and snow, wind and rain and yes its bloody cold but are you really welcoming that boiling heat back you just demolished so effectively lol Its a case of we just cannot win in this world :)

Nicely done. Really like the last couple of lines - waiting for the day the sun demolishes the icy fire. - and the line trudging through slush. Well penned.

ITs quite true that sometimes the cold can burn worse than heat. Well done. Thanks for the share

thank you for reading
"Winter is coming" Game of Thrones. It is inevitable, and we always dread its arrival. We also know the sun will come to burn it off. You described that well here.
