The Huntress

The Huntress

A Poem by Briana O'Connor

Escorting me everywhere

With an aura of darkness,

Mimicking my bearing,

My gesture and my velocity.

Relieve her, I cannot.

She’s adhered to my spirit,

Leaching my emotions,

Yearning for dominion.

My shadow, so still

Whenever I’m rooted,

Seemingly harmless,

But I assure you she’s not.

Whispering in the silence,

Mocking through the wind,

Vanishing from my vision

To return with sudden malice.

I resist its temptation,

The pull towards its level,

Longing for lower ground

To entwine with my body.

This reflection of obscurity,

It’s lingering in the darkness,

Stalking my presence,

Awaiting my submission.

Powerful use of thoughts and emotion.
"This reflection of obscurity,

I like the flow of thoughts leading to the very nice ending. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

A poem like tales of the sinister and evil ... that floats on the gloom of the dark ... and comes into homes in the autumn breezes of leaves and wavy dried branches. Its the stories of changelings ... swamp things ... the mighty boogeyman ... and all that we classify as unknown and shadowy. Food for the imagination surely. Nice ...

Where does our shadow go when we sleep? What does it get up to then? Well written, I enjoyed this one.

Now this was excellently done! The last line was masterful. I commonly write on themes such as this but this one is up there in those with such a theme that I have read. Most if not all lines was a hit. Perhaps one of the best I have seen you write. Well penned! :)

Thank you so much :D
I've heard of being afraid of one's shadow as a slam for being a chicken, but after reading this - I think I might need to watch out for she who follows me around. A sinister little write. Well penned.

You better be careful Briana she heard the beauty from which you penned her.

Not sure of the meaning behind it, wouldn't mind being filled in. :) But it is pretty eye catching in how it's written.

This is your featured piece .It must be special or something of importance or significance . My initial impression was a Shadow . Then it could possibly mean a lot more . It could be Emotions or an Untamed Spirit . Whatever this thing or Entity is ....somehow has great bearing and influence upon the muse . It mimics but somehow does not want to be bound by rules . This could also be a carefree entity with a carefree attitude .
Another possible cues might be our environment . This could be self imposing and compounding as in Peer Pressure ...
