Coming Home

Coming Home

A Poem by Shaun Payton
"

I paid my price for an addiction. If you have a problem please please listen to those who love you and seek help. Life is truly beautiful.

"
To once know the oceans sound
To before the future laugh as a child
To stay obedient away from the grain
the brutal face of reality, can consume
every nutrient of value.

A young bright smile turns to waste
the years of grief age the pain
and withers desires to live.

Leaves without color
Life without beauty
no senses can trace
this grave consequence.

Oblivion sounds peaceful
Though loving words mean well
They never echo on the last call
discovering your obscure black hole.

The death of your smile
The loss of the son,
Where has he gone?

What brings about reality?
A collapse and a call.
A mortal shame of words
exchanged,
A change crawling through
the veins of existence

The spending of scars
a parted truth comes
mightier than blood red eyes

You want to live
and facing this mirror
Has shown it is not broken
You are staring into your
creation of choice,
Either hell bound or
Entombed in silence

You can pierce the illusion
The confidence of under control

You can choose to fight
And live, walk within beauty
instead of judging it
and calling it obscene.

Clarity is a daily realization

What you are worth is without question.
With each step you are coming home.

Shaun what a poem. You describe addiction well.
Oblivion sounds peaceful
Though loving words mean well
They never echo on the last call
discovering your obscure black hole

I know many who wish their words did ring through at last call. Come home to me loved one. Leave the pain behind. Come home to me. Feel the way.

I too know truths that once realized change your very DNA. I have been struck to my core by realization.
The spending of scars
a parted truth comes
mightier than blood red eyes

But the ending Shaun was beautiful. With each step you take you come home to reside in the person who is yourself. Feast upon him for his worth is indeed without question.

I have been fortunate not to fight this particular demon personally as long as being a creative junkie doesn't count ;). I know I shouldn't tease because this is a serious and worthy topic. Great message of recovery.

This one really gets to me. A friend of mine I've known for many years just recently finally got help for an addiction that was killing him.
Well done.

Its a long road to destruction..same as recovery is, but seeing the wonderful world is worthwhile.
I felt this one to my core Shaun, I was addicted to pain killers at one time, and now watching my eldest son fighting his own demons, 'coming home' how perfectly apt, that conveys the message, when you're in the throes of addiction, you're so off the mark, nothing feels like home. Well done my friend!
