An Unanswered Question

An Unanswered Question

A Chapter by A. L. Allen
"

Some musings of mine that may, more or less, make no sense at all. :P

"

Now, here’s a question

One, which may not have an answer

But, I’ll ask away

Give me an honest confession

What do you long for?

What do I long for?

That is something better to ask

Do I want best friends?

Yes; but maybe there’s something more.

I long for something

But I do not know what it is

Do I long for life

That’s amazing and peachy-keen?

Yes, but no as well.

I want something fine

A ‘carbon copy’, so to speak,

Of those great stories

Yet, I want something that’s all mine

I may not make sense

Sorry, if I make your head spin

I’m really confused

Too, by the idea my mind presents

Is it possible

To make and write my own story?

Or, is it foolish

To think I can leap obstacles?

Obstacles that keep

Me, from being uniquely me

Can I write my own story?

Would I? The costs very steep

As life passes by

I wonder, is there something there

That can help me find

Something different that I can try?

I like what I see

In other people’s lives. But I

Think, do I want that?

Or, do I want something that’s me?

Yes, I want something

Honestly, either one will do

I just have to wonder

Which one would be more appealing?

A ‘carbon copy’

Of a completely amazing life?

Or, something unique

Something, that really defines me?

You honestly choose

Choose exactly what you long for

Be what you want to

You don’t have to wear other shoes.

As for me, I still

Don’t know. But, I’ll find it some day

I have to, you know

I will find it someday. I will.

I was thinking about this while I was out riding bikes with my family (I know, weird :p).

If this poem doesn't make sense to you, let me sum it up. Basically, what I'm trying to ask is which one do I want more? Do I want one of those completely perfect lives that everyone wants? Or, do I want something different, something that may not be perfect, but something that is still mine.

I still, honestly, don't know the answer to this, but I'm trying to find it. :)

Let me know what you think! Your personal opinions on the question in this are also appreciated.

Thanks!

You go bike-riding too ? Awesome, I'm totally not alone. Maybe.. in the being forced to get up early in the morning sense.
This is really sort of ironic, because I just watched the " Pursuit Of Happiness " with Will Smith and his son Jaden ( A very young, young, young Jaden). It was sort of about this.

Easy enough to understand. I really like your source of inspiration and that you acted on it. A question, hm? Nice poem. I've always had a fear of imperfection as a writer. There'd be nothing left for me to do. If I was ' perfect ', life would seem less and less worth living for. Right?

Well done Allen. You have a unique writing style. The repetition of some of the lines added to the poem. Not perfect but good enough for me.

I think about this so much my head hurts. What do I want? I keep longing for it, but I have no idea what it is. And if I tell someone about it, they look at me like I'm crazy. I'm so glad someone out there actually feels the same way!!
(plus the rhyme scheme was really cool! took me a couple tries to understand but it was really creative!)
Good job on another great poem by none other than the awesome you!!

Very deep questions that reflect off intelligent thoughts. It's quite funny how sometimes the thoughts that we invent are the same ones that leave us mind-baffled. Keep up the deep contemplation!
As for personal opinions, All I long for perhaps is finding true love, I'm actually quite the hopeless romantic type, haha.
