On the Inside

On the Inside

A Poem by ayejodie

Falling in love,
How beautiful it sounds.
How easily it attracts us..
So alluring.
-But I want to be loved...
Everyone wants to be loved.
But...what happens when you do fall?
And your lying there, on the floor..
When love is no longer new,
When we no longer chase it.
What happens, in love?

Well, it is a trap.
-A mouse trap.

How foolish, to see what we want,
To believe in better things
Despite everything we already know.
For a tiny second,
We choose to believe this world is safe,
That we have been saved.
Allowing ourselves to be caught,
We willingly fall into loves' arms.
Throwing ourselves.

But, it is a trap...

A little box we choose to never leave,
That slowly drives us insane.
Day by day, we become more dependant on another.
My head heavy from thoughts I've made up..
There is always an exit door,
But it is love...
We can never truly leave...
There is no safe.

We decide to trust despite being hurt before. When the blissful honeymoon phase has weathered away and it feels like we're at a standstill, it does away or is taken away. Very good.

you know you are one of my favorite poets on the site and this poem is an indication why. You ask a question and then take us on a well crafted journey to find the answer. Your opening was strong but these lines serve as the anchor for the rest of the poem to be built upon

Everyone wants to be loved.
But...what happens when you do fall?
And your lying there, on the floor..
When love is no longer new,
When we no longer chase it.
What happens, in love?

From there you state the obvious
Well, it is a trap.
-A mouse trap.

you speak a brutal honest truth from your observation and experience

How foolish, to see what we want,
To believe in better things
Despite everything we already know.
For a tiny second,
We choose to believe this world is safe,
That we have been saved.
Allowing ourselves to be caught,
We willingly fall into loves' arms.
Throwing ourselves.

you place another anchor with these lines

But, it is a trap... and from there lead us into a brilliant conclusion...well done as usual

It sounds like a very well written description of disappointment, heartache and unrealized exspectations. I liked it. Great job ayejodie. Thank you.

This is a nice description of what love can be at times. It really depends on how you perceive it more than anything. Fantastic job :)

Lovely put. Love is a quite tragic cat and mouse game of traps isn't it?

Everyone craves love, but sometimes we rush in too fast.
In the end, we wonder why it ended.
It's because you have to take your time!
Love is confusing and complicated, but also can be spectacular!
When you find true love, go for it!
That's what I did :)

Wonderful poem!
I'm such a big fan of your work :)
