Horror of Abuse

Horror of Abuse

A Poem by Arte Por Vida
"

Poem written about my mom. Can't remember when

"

Hand to the face
Just a little sting
But it feels like so much worse
Down inside my soul

Not a mark left
At least to the human eye
Yet I see a shining red
There upon my face

Abuse no longer an “if”
It’s for sure without a doubt
Although unbelievable and unfortunate
None can prove it false

A mother hit a daughter
In a drunken state
How could this happen
In such a sacred bond?

Protection and love is absent
There’s just screaming and fights
Pushing around with tight grip
It’s a shock no bruises show

When the daughter holds back
Yet the mother lashes out
The volume increases quickly
With the immense pain inside

A broken home is left
With such horror and despair
Why would one dare return
To such an awful Hell on Earth?

The truth is one dares not
But yet cannot just go
So she’ll try to find a haven
That’s safe and people care

I love how simple you put everything. Made the poem lighter letting it flow with the dark subject.Cheers.

You have written a wonderful description of domestic abuse.
Could you overcome such crisis later in life?
Very vivid and meaningful.
Thanks for sharing.
