Irony of Her Life

Irony of Her Life

A Poem by Arte Por Vida
"

Also was for school. Kind of, anyway. 3/17/11

"

She’s the girl

Who says “hi” to everyone

And tries her hardest

To make their day

Or even to get a smile

You all know who she is

And take note of her compassion

Even if she’s not a close friend

Or you only know her name

Nonetheless, you know her

Some say her smile

Is oh so very beautiful

And that her happiness

Shines through

As the bounce in her step

But none of you realize

This girl suffers

More than anyone

Could ever possibly guess

Or imagine in a million years

This is the girl

Who is verbally abused

Who cuts herself

Who cries a river every week

And masks it all for you

She fears people knowing

Though she has told some

Friend that she trusts

But even they

Don’t always see though her mask

This very girl

Is sitting among us

The tears she cried

All from last night

Are still not gone from her eyes

The scars she almost made

May not be visible to you

But to her

They sting

And shimmer bright red

You see a happy girl

And that she is

But only on the outside

While on the inside

She’s shattered

The irony of her life

Is very clear to see

Though it runs far deeper

That this story lets on

The basic are all there
