States of Chardonnay

States of Chardonnay

A Poem by Melisse

Yes it’s true

I take everything I have for granted

this drink I drink

this warm house within which I think

saw a baby’s birth certif. today

and remembered where

I was born, the great U. S. of A.

and how I take it,

oh I take it for granted

everyday

“this is the best place in the world to stay”

I snort and cheer myself today

we are living in today

the warmth of furnaces, houses, windows, clean-bowled toilets, painted cars, television, artificial lights of day, restaurant, hospital, bank,

Sanitize your floors with chardonnay

states of A.

uprisen, downfalling

a life you’re born to think you’ve made

but what if a wind came

whirling,

to take it all away

tidal wave of chardonnay

wiped you and your world clean,

just you, your people at your side,

how much simpler did it all just seem?

or how much more complex?

she’s broken up"some passionate, typical romance with the opposite sex

wipe that apathy up off your face, girl,

clean the tears away,

up, up, and away with chardonnay,

the birthplace paradise

comes every way but free.

but isn’t it?

so bittersweet,

so f*****g neat"

sweet beating of each human heart

is the same; fragile.

And you’re a beast for thinking it that way.
