SHE

SHE

A Poem by EMMIE

Dark is this place in which her mind resides
Sometimes she thinks of suicide
In her darkest hour…she opens her eyes
Drip, drop, drip, drop goes the blood
Thru her knife cut…goes the blood
Marked wrists look like blood beasts
On clouds of smoke…up in the sky
She fly high
Howkus Powkus here comes the pain
She cant focus
Sometimes trains are comin’ at her
But sometimes snakes are bitin’ at her
Burnin’ in this sea of fire, yet she feels like she’s flyin’
She was suppose to be the girl soldier
What happened? She lost her composure
Dark is this place in which her mind resides
She once had a momma and a daddy
And she never thought about dyin’
But now the thoughts of self murder…they never end
Her bad habits…they never bend
She’s so sick but she wont quit
Tears shed down her face
But salty water don’t wash the pain away
She turns to her white friends
Once again…
Thinkin’ they can help
Needles, needles
Sharp needles…
Up in the blood veins….deep in the brain cells
Yes indeed! She can see them now
People from the past and people from the now
Roaches and demons explode like dynamite in her head
Yes, yes! She is now insane!
She can see hell…and the devil as well
Is she dyin’?
She’s in a wooden box with flowers but nobody’s cryin’
Could it be so possibly…that she…
Is me?

A poem very puzzling... and with so many insights and kind of reflections.
Sad..though.
Probably a little bit of us, in a sentence or another.

This has a nice rhythm to it. When I read it aloud, it definitely came off better. I can imagine hearing someone recite this in a smokey, dimly lit bar. Kudos.

This poem has the tight punchy rhythm of a powerful bass line. The violent themes come across in an artistic way that allows the reader to easily digest the imagery. Scenes of madness and chaos gave me goosebumps. I loved the artistic talent topped off with the badass delivery. Full of attitude.

These lines really transfixed me and made me read them over again many times:

1. But salty water don’t wash the pain away
She turns to her white friends
