Chasing Angels

Chasing Angels

A Poem by A.Lee

I thought I'd caught an angel once
I gave it everything I had
I brushed its flawless feathered wings
And tended to its every need
I made my lap a little pillow
For it to lay its weary head
But it woke up and flew away
It never did intend to stay

When I was young I lived in fairy tales
Where every monster met its fate
I knew each damsel would be rescued
From her world of bitter hate
I didn't know my case was different
Though I knew that I was strange
I thought that if I gave enough
One day my life was sure to change

As the days went on and on
I chased the angels to and fro
But every time I captured one
It flew away when it was done
No matter if I did my best
No matter if I tried so hard
They took my gifts and then they went
And all my tears on them were spent

When I was young I lived in fairy tales
Where every monster met its fate
I knew each damsel would be rescued
From her world of bitter hate
But now I know its only myth
It wasn't meant for ones like me
No, I just can't be good enough
For anything but misery

I saw an angel the other day
I said hello but didn't stay
I've given up on happy things
My angels only sadness bring
But it came back to try again
As if my thoughts would change by then
I said "I've nothing left to give"
It said, "I just want you to live..."

When I was young I lived in fairy tales
Where every monster met its fate
I knew each damsel would be rescued
From her world of bitter hate
But who decides if I am worthy?
If I deserve to escape the pain?
Should I accept the loving kindness
Or only years of endless rain?

This is absolutely stunning. I read this poem and felt torn. There is a lot of hope inside of me that was inspired....Even though it was such a sad tale. It made me want to just scream out "Its not over yet". I loved the images. This poem reads like a comic book. You did a brilliant job.

Very touching poem….
Your thoughts are simple and humble…
But when you express them in words….
They unleash extra ordinary power….
Believe it or not….
Keep writing….

Always to check in on what's written... hoping, for that ray of sunshine. What I find, is always fine writing. In this... shades, of the divine. Angels never leave us Cattie, in the gloom they can be ignored. These places horrors are stored and lend us. Only worthlessness and never bliss. Or the suns. kiss. That chase away shadows, do they only return time to us to live on our way. Come by again, in the passing. When needed... as the edges and shards, ride to close to the vein.

Well Angela, passing by... again, fine writing.

Great write. Powerful and thought provoking. The Childlike belief in fairy tales gradually crushed as we grow. Feelings of loneliness, no worthy to be happy, ect. To answer your question 'who decides?' YOU do.

If this poem is merely made up of random thoughts, as you describe, then they are beautifully grafted together into a very perceptive and thoughtful work of poetry. The melancholic wistfulness that comes through in these words has a good deal of substance, and this is a poem that has been very well thought out in terms of arrangement and structure. The analogy of angels and fairy tales is incisive and shows a very philosophical understanding for the reality of the partly-shaded and grey areas of life. A resignation and perhaps even a despair that the 'angels' of real life bring with them as much the potential for pain as happiness. And is the alternative really any better?
An extremely well-crafted and intelligently introspective piece of work. The conclusion is very fine and the poem as a whole is parcelled with a pleasing gentleness.

I am in love with this poem.
So, so, so good.
As others below me said, it was beautiful and it flowed well.
I love the concept, and basically everything about it.
