Soul reflection

Soul reflection

A Poem by chaos in space
"

Late night thoughts

"

All that is around me has become vacant

A series of trifling events

All that is inside of me has become empty

A collision of emotions I can not vent

The reflection in the mirror,

A mysterious figure

with a crooked smile

and peculiar black eyes

that pierce your heart

leaving scars behind

but I chose to be blind

after I witnessed the daunting effect

I chose not to see what's in the mirror

For that figure that echoed back

belonged to no one but myself

This piece illustrates how it feels when we're our own worst enemy . . . it's certainly a feeling that you've described as "a collision of emotions I cannot vent." Sometimes, things in the past can make us so ashamed that we're scared to look in the mirror. I like how you showed that with the imagery in this piece, especially the lines "A mysterious figure / with a crooked smile / and peculiar black eyes / that pierce your heart." I also think the virtual lack of punctuation in this piece was a great choice . . . this poem didn't need it.

- William Liston

PS: The words "can not" in the fourth line should be "cannot."

I ruminated on the thought that this pertained to someone mentally ill. As though they'd been drained by the medications. Perhaps a better analysis has to do with a disappointment in one's self. Not wanting to be in this body and mind but having no choice. Either way, an emotionally moving poem.

Wow, powerful words. I love the line: All that is around me has become vacant...A series of trifling events. I also loved: A mysterious figure...with a crooked smile...and peculiar black eyes...that pierce your heart. The lines seem so simple...so unassuming...and yet they say it all so poignantly. Loved the poem. Thank you for posting it.
