This woman I see

This woman I see

A Poem by Carissa Marie

She weeps in the silence of the night.
Being careful not to let out a sound.
I see her scars hidden beneath the blankets
Like a shield.
A fortress to protect her from harm.
She holds her hand to her chest.
As if she was trying to feel her heart.
She feels her shattered heart beating,
Fighting against her will.
There was nothing but hurt and grief,
Painted in her innocent face.
It broke my heart to see,
How absurd this scene can be.
And as tears fell down my face,
As my heart grieves for this girl in front of me,
Realization hits.
The woman I see is me.
