Goldenrods

Goldenrods

A Poem by Carissa Marie

Goldenrod, like the color of the sunset-
You whom I have taken for granted;
You with the immaculate beauty,
And the scent whom I adore-
But I cannot show.
You have made a mark upon me,
Like the thorns of those roses,
Whose beauty I have revered.
I have chosen daffodils, over you.
I have chosen lilies, and daisies,
And all those beautiful flowers that girls loved,
But never you.
Those flowers I have worshiped,
Those beauty I have treasured,
None of them compares to you -
And yet, not one look upon you I have spared.
I have touched a thousand flowers,
I have smelled a thousand scent,
But the one thing that I want most -
I have not and cannot covet.

Do not get me wrong, my precious goldenrod -
I love you with such fervent passion
That could make all those flowers rot with envy.
But I cannot bring myself to be selfish.
Because to own you is to un-root you,
And to un-root you would mean your death.

A beautiful sentiment in your words. Seeing beauty, but not wanting to damage the fragility within its beauty. Wonderfully written. Thank you for sharing.
