Just because

Just because

A Story by Carissa Marie

"Why do you love me?", I asked her.
"Just because", she answered.
"That cannot be, you must love me for a reason", I said.
"Sometimes love needs no reason", she answered smiling.
"But how?", I pressed on. Not believing that someone can love
Without reason.
"I just do", she shrugged.
"But-", I tried to say something but she interrupted me.

"I loved you from the first time I laid my eyes on you,
From the moment that you opened your mouth,
And you cried so loudly, it made my ears hurt.
I loved you even before then.

I loved you from the moment you knew how to stand,
And to walk,
And to run,
Until that moment, that you moved away.
I kept on loving you.

I loved you when you had your first fist-fight,
When you punched the lights out of that boy,
And I was called to the principal's office,
I loved you still.

I loved you the first time you had your heart broken,
And you drowned yourself in alcohol,
And you kept shouting, that nobody loved you,
I loved you even more.

I loved you when I found you covered in blood,
As you tried to take away your life,
Just because things weren't going your way,
My love never went away.

I loved you, when you left me and got married,
I was all alone, in our tiny house that was too big for me,
And you never once visited or called,
But I loved you just the same.

I loved you, as you come here to my hospital bed,
Asking me questions,
And prodding me my reasons why I love you.
And still, I love you just because"

"You see son, sometimes love doesn't need a reason,
And sometimes you love someone simply just because", she said.
