Poetry Dump #2

A Story by Carissa Marie

A promise was made on that first day of Autumn,
You said, "Someday I'll take you for a ride."
We were young and reckless,
And all we had was nothing but our love.
You held my hand as the leaves fell all around us,
Encircling us in a magical snow.
We had a good run for three full seasons.
Our love lasting through what seemed,
The ends of time.
We ran through summer,
When the heat soaked our shirts with sweat,
Too damp to wear so we undress
While our sun-kissed skin glides with each other.
We ran through winter,
When it was too cold to go outside,
And wrapped ourselves with blankets,
After we built forts beside the fireplace.
We ran through spring,
When the flowers bloomed everywhere,
And we had our picnics by the park,
Sneezing all the while as we breathe in all the pollen.
And we ran through Autumn,
My best and worst season,
When promises were made and broken
Like the fallen leaves that was both beautiful and sad.
I watched you as you left,
Beneath that orange Autumn tree,
As we ended our run.
The rev of your engine roared through the silence-
A fulfillment of a promise
Of you taking me for a ride.

Wonderful comparison to seasons stat and end, and the last line is absolutely fantastic. Great write.
