Sound of Silence

Sound of Silence

A Poem by Carissa Marie

It whispers to me words of love,
As I lay beneath the comforts of my blankets,
Shielding me from the cold that I feel within.
It tells me the tales of people long forgotten,
Ashen, and pale as death,
While all the while I wish it to collect mine.
It keeps me company,
In the long hours I kept awake,
With the haunting thoughts of my loneliness.
It feeds my fantasies and illusions,
With images of what it feels like-
to live and to love.
At times when I need it most it comes to me,
Needling me,
Embracing me,
Keeping me at peace.
In the deafening void of my screams
And in the lonely hours of my impending death,
I listen to it.
I listen to-
The sound of silence.

Vivid. Beautiful. Captivating. I love that this poem does not have a rhyming scheme but it is easy to read and flows so wonderfully. It captured my attention the second I started reading it and I could not stop. It definitely wraps the reader up into where the author is. Absolutely wonderful.

Thank you so much. :)
Very nicely captured. The over bearing, cloying, suffocation that is felt when truly alone and unheard. I hear you. I also see a very talented writer.
