Tidal Waves

Tidal Waves

A Poem by Carissa Marie

It was upon this shore we had part our ways.
We said our goodbyes,
Like the waves retreating
Slowly,
Farther,
And farther away.
The ocean is a void
The rain could not fill,
And so is your heart.
I could still hear the words you said.
It was a whale's call-
Echoing from the depths,
Of an unspoken memory.
The water was of a darker shade of blue that day,
Different from it's usual spectacular shade of warmth.
It was cold and uninviting,
Exactly like your touch.
You had drowned me back then.
You were holding me close,
And I was drowning.
Your kisses were not a life vest,
And your tears could not save me from death.
Even the scent of the sea could not comfort me,
Because it was polluted
With an unfamiliar scent of the forest
That was coming from you.

But upon this same shore where I now stand,
Soon, the tidal waves shall come,
And I welcome its coming with open arms.
Your love for me may be a tsunami,
But I am a wreckage
Coming back for more.
