Myriad of ashes

Myriad of ashes

A Poem by Carissa Marie

The morning sun rises me from my fretful slumber,
And I immediately reach out
to touch the cold and empty space
Beside me in the huge king sized bed.
It was out of habit more than anything else,
That I immediately retract my hands
Before I can even open my eyes and stare at your absence.
The sunlight coming in through the small opening in the curtains
Highlights the space where months ago,
An angel smiles upon me,
Greeting me with a most blissful morning.
I stare at your old, pink pillow-
And somehow see you staring back at me with
A teasing expression
That would entail another hour or so of our time in bed.

But with a sigh,
I could only wish to see you.
If only through the memories of our short-lived time together,
I would replay the memory our last few days
By reaching out beside me, to your unmade side of the bed-
Until your face reappears in the myriad of your ashes,
And you finally smile upon me once again.
