Jurassic Finds

Jurassic Finds

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Fossil hunting, (not for one little miss though, who had other ideas)

"
On the foreshore at Seatown
exposed by low tide,
she can't hide her delight
at the sight of clay.

Grey, abundant, pliable.
On her knees, it pleases to
mould, roll, pummel.
A smile on her face
fingernails ingrained, clothes stained.

While others hunt for fossils,
belemnites in batches,
she hatches
a Jurrassic duck

This person certainly enjoys life at its best, showing us that it doesn’t take much to make someone gleeful….tossing and pummeling with a smile brings back wonderful memories of childhood… an upbeat poem for sure;
Well done Chris!
Best
B.

Kalani, what a lovely name. He looks gorgeous.
Humorous and light reading - now that is very nice! Hope you took pictures of the poetic image you have eloquently described! PS … and … back to the Anchor Inn for a pint of Dorset Gold …. bless :-)

This is a charming wee poem Christine, full of gentle humour. For a moment I wondered whether the one on her knees in the mud might be you. There is something magical when we rediscover the child buried within - like a fossil! We used to take our son agate hunting at that keen age and until his primary teacher begged us to stop driven to distraction by the samples he took every Monday. You have a great talent in finding poetic inspiration in the everyday.
All the best,
Alan

This is one of funnier things I've read in a while.

"hatches a Jurassic duck"... ha... that's objectively hilarious.
