(playing with words) Thank you Margie (barleygirl) for your inspiration

a small craft is within sight

i hear a young man's voice upstream

his boat approaches

and reveals two black labradors

on deck

he is in deep conversation

with his canine friends

i think of barleygirl

tickling the tummies of her house mates

and know that my longing 

for a dog is out of the question

a frog has more chance

of turning into a prince

I wondered where you were going here after the first verse Chris. The bit about Barleygirl and the dogs is a bit enigmatic. I guess her inspiration is poetic not canine but if you have a longing for a dog go for it! Or maybe just get some housemates and tickle their tummies. Seriously I think we do inspire each other (tummie tickling!) in this cyber cafe.

Thanks Alan. Indeed, inspired by barleygirl, but particularly her latest poem "Tummies I've Rubbed" which is about her canine friends. I would love a dog, but I am outnumbered at home. There are four others who say no. As I believe in democracy, I have no alternative other than accepting the majority decision : (

I see this is an oldie and I wonder where the doggie thing finally went
At the moment we have three.
One belongs to my son (Very noisy, stupid Blue Healer) one belongs to friends who are heading for 3 months in sunny climates (a cute little Shizue) and our Havanese who is the dearest thing alive, but uncontrolled Vet bills that are making dog ownership "extremely" expensive.
In my opinion, Vet bills are spoiling animal ownership (ie. &4,000 dental bills) but they are wonderful things, teeth, er I mean Dogs!!

Sorry for late response. We still have Solo my grandson’s dog. She arrived with him shortly after I wrote this poem. Yes vet bills are astronomical. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate with three doggies :) Bitterly cold here. Minus temperatures. Brhhhh…

I can understand your longing por a puppy... when I saw this sick little cat at the beach ( that wanted to come home with me) I told my husband, I wanted that cat as my Christmas gift... he gave in.( It took 3 months of relentless effort to make her healthy). You ask for a pup as a gift or even better, take them all to a shelter and let them see all the beautiful creatures waiting for a home( sounds like an emotional blackmail doesn't it?) I really hope your wish comes true.

They say you have to kiss a lot of toads, before you meet your handsome prince - but - I say - having a pet companion is more rewarding! Loved your short sweet write; reminded me of a pet dog my parents once had long ago. The most loyal animal I could ever imagine - great share! :-)
